LEADER-IN-TRAINING program

The Leader-In-Training (LIT) Program is a critical program for youth ages 12-18 that emphasizes self-esteem and exposure to new opportunities. The program allows teens to stay connected with the Camp AmeriKids community year-round by sponsoring monthly activities  in New York City. These weekend retreats and cultural day trips focus on developing self-awareness, building conflict resolution skills, communicating with a team, and identifying and addressing personal challenges. The program is an opportunity for LITs to grow within a supportive environment and develop the tools they need to become successful, young adults.

Every fall, eligible campers will receive applications for the LIT program. After applications are reviewed, notification letters will be sent to applicants and their guardians.

As summer approaches, LIT participants may apply to be Junior Counselors for the upcoming camp session. Based on their performance and growth during the year, as well as schedule and space availability, some LIT members will have the opportunity to attend camp as Junior Counselors.

Past activities include:

• Weekend skill-building retreats in upstate NY
• Private tour of MTV studios in New York City
• Group visit to Museum of Natural History
• Day trip to Ellis Island
• Public Theater performance with cast Q&A
• Private tour of Ishlab music studio in Brooklyn
